‘In the grocery store:
- Do you have Tom & Jerry?
- I beg your pardon!?
- Berry cherry?
- Do you mean roji berry?
- Oh, yes, that was it exactly…!’
Such jokes have become part of our life much like all the super foods flooding the health stores.
The amount of unfamiliar foods can feel overwhelming and difficult to keep track of. The question is how to distinguish between the fad and the really healthy ingredients, that would be really beneficial to our health. We present to you one of them today:
- Anti-aging effect
- Support the immune system and fight inflammation
- Contain high amounts of Vitamin A and C, that help to prevent illness
- Rich in antioxidants, that protect our cells from damage
- Promote healthy skin
- Stabilize blood sugar
- Stabilizes mood and helps the good sleep
All these benefits are thanks to the so called phytochemicals, contained in the goji berries. For example, one of them is the beta-carotene, which gives the intense red colour and is beneficial to the health of eyes, bones, skin and cell development. It has been established that the levels of this phytochemical in goji berries is amongst the highest of all plants.
Still, these beautiful red fruits are not very popular in Europe and many people don’t know how to integrate them in their diet. It is actually quite easy and given all of the above benefits, it is worth it to find more applications. You can add them to your salads, smoothies, desserts, cakes, breakfast cereal mixes and any toppings. Sprinkle a spoonful of goji berries for a colourful finish of your dish.
A few dark chocolate manufacturers have integrated them in their recipes and we have done the same with our vegan Chocolate & Goji berries flavour.
